Overview

What it is

Personal Care & Daily Living

Personal care covers the everyday routines that make a house feel like home and a day feel like your own. It is the morning shower, the choice of clothes, the breakfast that suits you, the medication taken at the right time, and the comfort of knowing someone reliable is there to help with the parts of the day that are harder to manage alone.

At Mirai Wellbeing, we treat personal care as one of the most personal things we do. It involves privacy, dignity, and trust. A person invites us into their home, often into their most private moments, and we never take that lightly. Our support workers are trained, screened, and matched to each participant with care, because the right match makes all the difference to how comfortable a person feels.

This support sits under the Assistance with Daily Life budget in most NDIS plans. It can be funded for a few hours a week or built into a more substantial daily routine, depending on what the person needs and what their plan allows. We work closely with participants, families, and plan managers to make sure the hours line up with the way the person actually lives, not the other way around.

Personal care is not about doing everything for someone. It is about being present where help is genuinely useful and stepping back where the person wants to manage on their own. Some participants want full support with showering and dressing. Others only need a prompt or someone nearby in case they feel unsteady. Both are completely fine, and we adjust to whichever feels right.

We also pay attention to the small things that make support feel respectful. Knocking before entering a room. Using the person's preferred name. Following their routine rather than imposing ours. Letting them set the pace of the morning even if it takes a little longer. These details are the difference between care that feels warm and care that feels transactional.

Eligibility & Fit

Who it suits

For a participant who would like a steady hand with everyday personal routines such as showering, dressing, grooming, moving around the home, or remembering medication. It suits people who want to stay in charge of how their day unfolds, with support on hand where it is wanted.

Our Approach

How Mirai delivers it

Every personal care visit starts with the person, not a task list. Before we begin any ongoing support, we sit down with the participant and, where they wish, their family, to understand how they like their day to run. What time do they like to get up? Do they prefer a shower in the morning or the evening? Who do they want in the bathroom with them, and who do they not? What helps them feel relaxed, and what makes them anxious?

We write all of this down in a way that is clear and easy to revisit, and we share it only with the people the participant agrees to. When a new support worker joins the team, they read it before their first shift. This means the person does not have to keep explaining themselves to strangers, which is one of the most exhausting parts of changing providers.

Consistency matters to us. Wherever possible, we send the same support workers to the same participants, because trust is built over time and through familiarity. We know that having a new face turn up each week is unsettling, particularly for support that involves dressing, showering, and personal privacy. If a regular worker is away, we let the participant know in advance and introduce the replacement properly.

We also keep families informed without overwhelming them. Some families want a quick text after each visit. Others prefer a weekly summary. A few would rather not hear from us unless something important comes up. We follow whatever the participant and their family agree to, and we never share information beyond what has been approved.

Our workers are trained in safe manual handling, infection control, and medication prompting, and they work within the boundaries of their role. If something falls outside personal care, like a clinical nursing task, we will say so clearly and help connect the person with the right service rather than stretching beyond what is safe.
