Localised Support

Delivering NDIS support in Delahey

Delahey is a close-knit residential suburb where participants often value having a consistent, familiar support worker who turns up on time. We help participants with morning routines, meal preparation, personal care, and domestic assistance. When heading out, we accompany participants to Delahey Village shopping centre on Kings Road, Mackellar Reserve, or nearby medical centres in Sydenham and Taylors Lakes.

Every support visit we deliver in Delahey is shaped around the participant's choices, routines, and cultural preferences. Support is provided by people who live and work in the western suburbs, so we know the local streets, the amenities, and the community spaces that make life here what it is.

Life in Delahey

What makes Delahey different

Delahey is a quiet, close knit residential suburb in the City of Brimbank, and it has the kind of community where people know their neighbours and value reliability. For many of the participants we support here, the most important thing is not a long list of services. It is having a consistent, familiar support worker who turns up on time, every time, and who they genuinely trust.

That consistency is something we prioritise in Delahey. We aim to send the same support workers to the same participants, because trust is built through familiarity, and for participants who find change difficult, a new face each week can be genuinely distressing. When a regular worker is away, we let the participant know in advance and make sure the replacement is introduced properly.

Much of our work in Delahey is in home support. Morning routines, personal care, meal preparation, domestic assistance, and medication prompting are all common, and we deliver them with respect for the person's home, their routines, and their standards. We do not impose our way of doing things. We learn how the person likes their home to run, and we fit in with that.

Delahey Village on Kings Road is the local shopping centre, and it is where many of our participants do their shopping and errands. It is a modest, practical centre that serves the local community, and it has the advantage of being familiar and manageable rather than overwhelming. We accompany participants there for grocery runs, banking, and the social side of getting out.

The Delahey Community Centre on Copperfield Drive is a local hub that hosts programs and activities, and several of our participants take part in what is on offer. For a quiet suburb, having a community centre within easy reach matters, because it gives people a place to connect without having to travel far. We help participants find programs that suit them and attend with them while they settle in.

Mackellar Reserve is the main open space in the area, with walking tracks and room for a gentle outing. For participants who enjoy being outdoors but do not want to travel far, it is a practical option. We use it regularly for walks, fresh air, and a change of scene from the home.

Delahey's proximity to Watergardens Town Centre is a real advantage. Watergardens, just up the road in neighbouring Taylors Lakes, is a major retail and transport hub, and it gives our Delahey participants access to a wider range of shops, services, and the railway station. We accompany participants to Watergardens when they need something the local village does not offer, and we help them build confidence navigating the larger centre.

The local bus network connects Delahey to Keilor Plains and Watergardens stations, which is useful for participants building travel skills. We use these routes when supporting participants to get out independently, starting with accompanied trips and gradually building towards travelling with less support.

Families in Delahey value clear, honest communication, and we make that a priority. We keep families informed about how things are going, in whatever way suits them, and we never leave them wondering. For families who are juggling work and caring, knowing that the support worker turned up, that the morning went well, and that anything significant was flagged, makes a real difference.
